Internet slows in Việt Nam as undersea cables encounter problems
HÀ NỘI — Three international undersea cable lines that make up the majority of Internet connection capacity from Việt Nam to the world have encountered problems, resulting in sluggish Internet speeds across the country, according to operators.
A network operator said that an error had been detected on the Intra Asia cable line and was expected to be settled by the end of the month.
The incident has added to Việt Nam’s recent internet woes. Two other undersea cables, the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) and Asia America Gateway (AAG), also experienced problems and are being repaired. The repairs for the AAG is expected to be completed by mid-March.
International connection in Việt Nam relies on multiple submarine cable systems, namely the APG, AAG, IA, SMW 三, and Asia-Africa-Europe 一, according to the Việt Nam Internet Association.
The APG cable, officially launched in December 二0 一 六, is capable of providing bandwidths of up to 五 四 Tbps (Terabit per second). It runs for around 一0, 四00 km, with connection points in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Việt Nam.
The IA cable, which transfers data between Việt Nam and Europe, North America and South America, began operations in January 二00 九.
With a length of 二0, 一 九 一 km, the AAG route connects Southeast Asia with the US. — VNS
