- 1/4 cup granulated sugar

- 3 cups thinly sliced red onion (about 1 medium onion)
REFRIED BLACK BEANS
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic (about 6 garlic cloves)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 (15-oz.) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (from 1 lime)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
